Meet the team
Following the recent retirement of our vicar, Frank Scammell, in early October 2021, Emmanuel is now in a period of vacancy.
Children’s and Families Worker
Melissa grew up on the Kent coast. She became a Christian as a young person through a Beach Mission. She loved the mission so much that she became a junior leader and has been involved in children’s work (and a little youth work) ever since. She has studied art and design and has completed a degree in Primary Education. She cares deeply about equipping families to grow together. She loves the energy and creativity of children and the fun that they bring. She has been serving at Emmanuel since 2013.
Aretia has been attending Emmanuel for about 35 years and joined the staff in 2001.
She’s brought up her children in the church and is now delighted to see her grandchildren attending.
She loves the variety the job offers and the opportunity to meet so many different people each week, and particularly enjoys seeing God at work in people’s lives and in our community.
Rev Rupert Masters
Rupert was born and brought up in Surrey. He cannot pinpoint an exact time when he became a Christian but it was at University that Christ became particularly real to him. He has been worshipping at Emmanuel Church for over 30 years. Over that time he has been a teacher in the children’s and young people’s groups, a home group leader and a church warden, as well as serving many years on the PCC. He now enjoys serving as a Curate.
Sarah moved to Guildford in 2016 after previously working at churches in North London and Reading. She loves working with young people and seeing them grow into their fullest potential. She loves the variety of the youth work at Emmanuel and is excited about seeing young people respond to God for the first time.
Parish Centre Facilitator and Assistant Administrator
Sally joined the church with her family in 2013. In 2019, she joined the staff team as Parish Centre Facilitator. She enjoys this varied role working with the Church Administrator, supporting ongoing activities in the church centre, including the Fairtrade Shop.
Rev Chris Reddin
Chris grew up in Essex and became a Christian as a teenager. Following University, she was a teacher in London and Surrey. Chris married Terry and moved to Guildford where they attended Emmanuel church; helping with the youth work, being on the PCC and involved in other areas of church life. When Chris retired, she trained for the Church of England Ministry. She served as a curate in Burpham before returning to Emmanuel, where Chris serves as an active retired minister. Chris and Terry have two daughters and four grandchildren.
